Month 23

a a1 a2 a3 a4 a5 a6 a7 a8 a9 a11 a13 a14You know some parents easily overlook Month 23. Sometimes parents can become so excited over an upcoming milestone (like Month 24) that Month 23 just seems like a mere “let’s truck through this” kind of month. But these months are the exact reason why I’ve made this online journal for you two girls. There are so many memories in these months that can be easily forgotten because it’s so easy to anticipate the bigger months. James 4:14 says “You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” Striving to have this mindset has caused me as your dad to cherish each moment and digest these “monthly” bite-sized pieces so that I don’t lose sight of thinking too far ahead. After all, you two belong to your Creator. He’s graciously loaned you two to us for how ever long He has planned, and for that, each month is incredibly valuable and precious to your mom and I.

Some fond memories happened in Month 23:

I got to “guest read” on Dr. Seuss’ birthday to my old elementary school! It was surreal walking the halls and saying hello to teachers that apparently remember me as the “freckly funny kid”.  I read in Mrs. Smyles class (a family friend) and the 3rd graders were enamored with you two! They couldn’t get over the fact that you girls were only 3 minutes apart.

You’re using your words more often and it’s the cutest thing watching you annunciate ever so slowly “Mi-ck-ey Mouse, Dai-sy Duck, Goo-fy”. For some odd reason you both can’t say the Donald in “Donald Duck” yet, but maybe it’s because you’re not fond of his grumpy demeanor.

Want to know the best part about Month 23? It’s the kisses! You two now love giving us kisses and hugs good night. It’s adorable watching you walk across the room when we ask for a kiss. You put your lips out and walk up to us and go “muah!”. Gwen, every time you hug us you yell “aaahhhh”!

One of your mommy’s friends said months 18-24 were the most difficult. And to some extent she’s really accurate. With middle of the night cries, grocery store melt downs, and learning how to share and be nice to your sister, it can be true. But golly, these months are also filled with some of the cutest and heart warming moments. I’ll take the cuddles, the “dadda’s”, the smooches, and the spontaneous living room dance offs any day of the week (or month).  “Long Days, Short Years”.

Thanks for letting me be your dad girls!
Next month is the BIG 2!
